Contrast and Coordination
New larger opening with glass pocket doors from the dining room allow for a causal daily life and flow and yet when closed, a more formal and intimate Dining Room is still available. The traditional vibe of the home is not sacrificed and the modern amenities are seamlessly melded into the design.
The existing kitchen had seen it’s day come and go. Relocating the hall closet and widening the connection to the dining room made room for an island and opened up the flow.
Window locations remained the same. The hall closet and existing cupboard/butlers pantry were removed to gain space for an island. New Custom Stainless hood with brass strapping pull the stainless appliances and brass details together.
Small Detail — Big Difference…The existing home is a traditional tutor cottage style. The original dark stained wood trim is stunning and in excellent shape. The foyer tended to be dark and a solid wood door leading to the Powder room at the end of the hall gave no indication that there was a connection to the rear yard. By reducing the oversized sized powder room replacing the window at the end of the hall with a door onto the deck, light now flows from the front of the home to the back. The existing door to the deck was in the kitchen where the new sub zero refrigerator stands.
The success of the kitchen was the true collaboration with the Client, the Architect and the Contractor and the flexibility within the Woodharbor Cabinet line to create something special.
